Just as a quick follow up to the story about Mary Bish’s campaigning for the Axe the Reading Tax campaign, on 11 March it was announced that the Chancellor would be scrapping the VAT on digital publications. The BBC’s coverage of the story is here.
A month or so later it was announced that the scrapping would be fast-tracked, linking this to the ‘new normal’ of lockdown where people are confined to their homes and schools and libraries are closed. The fight goes on as far as audiobooks are concerned.
The news of the fast tracking coincided with Mary’s birthday, so it made for a very special day all round. Mary has been self isolating for much of lockdown and has been relying even more on her trusty iPad. She is currently working her way through the Elena Ferrante My Beautiful Friend series.
