On Monday 18 June we ran a Reading Roadshow as part of Bournemouth University’s Festival of Learning, just under a week of events where academics from the university put on events for the general public. For our event, we put on a screening of one of the project stories, plus the stories created by some of our participants from the local area. We were delighted that six people from the workshop last year were able to attend and talk about their experiences – Geoff and Pat, the two Marys, Kit and Barbara. It was wonderful to welcome Ross and Ray back to Bournemouth, and Rebecca also helped with the organisation and running of the event. In keeping with RoS tradition, we had cake and there was a lot of sharing of good memories and laughter!
Following the screenings we set about making some bookstagrams – a popular activity on Instagram where readers create images based on the book they are currently reading, often with great artistry. With the help of a few carefully chosen props, we managed to create a number of rather splendid examples, thanks in no small part to Ray’s expertise. Here are just a couple of examples – you can view the others on Instagram on our account (readingonscreen_bu) or by using the hashtag #readingonscreen
We also fitted in a reading swap shop where a few of us exchanged books or book related objects. As an added surprise, one of the attendees, Peter, worked to produce a sketch of the event, another lovely memento of our time together.
This was a great opportunity for us to share the good news about the Reading on Screen project from last year and to show its lasting legacy. We hope there may be other similar events soon, so please continue watching this space!
