Barbara’s Bio
Born in London, now living in Dover, I worked as a nurse for many years in Croydon, then Australia and Canada. I’ve always loved reading, since I can remember. I’ve dragged myself into the twenty first century and am a proud owner of a Kindle — and an ipad. But I still cherish the copy of Anne of Green Gables that my Aunt Dorothy gave me.

Lovely film.
Marianne says
I love how you, your Aunt Dorothy, and your daughter are all forever connected across the generations via Anne.
Shelley says
Beautiful. One of my favourite images here is how the book transported its reader from her bed to the island…
Many of the narrators for our oral history project, Memories of Fiction, also hold onto the books that have meant something to them (e.g. Alison Williams – https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/research-centres/memories-of-fiction/archive/alison/).

I love the different scenes in this story, from the bedside, to the island, to Covent Garden. There’s a kind of merging of characters within the story, transporting us seamlessly from Dorothy to Anne to Barbara and beyond. Lovely story.

Barbara, I love the way your story moves from your written memories to your aunt to the experiences she gave you (your enduring love of Anne and that wonderful feeling after seeing Peter Pan!), and then to the image of you and Jenni with your versions of Anne – your film makes a beautiful connection across generations. A real gift of a story, thank you for sharing it.
