Wilkie’s Bio
A student, soon to be living in Warwick studying Classics. I’ve always been interested in ancient stories and myths, as I grew up listening to them on CDs given to me by my parents and grandparents. My favourite piece of ancient literature is probably the Iliad or the Odyssey, I can never choose which, so I usually just say I’m a fan of Homer’s work.
I love the idea of playing in the space of a story. Sorry your grandpa was a grouch – it was a funny joke!
I loved this, Wilkie – such a great idea and very experimental to mix video clips and other images. So glad you managed to complete… and export it! 🙂
The opening image of the fish and banknote is gorgeous and really grabbed me. And the collaborative storytelling that sits at the heart of the piece makes your point beautifully – great concept, well directed! Look forward to seeing what comes next…
Great meeting you Hope college started well. Good story. See you in December.
What an interesting take on stories through the ages. My Native American tribe does not believe in writing down our language and there is a split it seems between if our stories should be written too. When I asked my great grandpa why that was he said that our language, stories and food, like our celebrations, are a part of a living culture. If we write these things down we rely on objects to carry our history and culture – and forget to live it. Wilkie’s playfulness and approach to collaboration in retelling stories I think beautifully takes the concept of oral traditions and lived culture into these texts to give it new life and purpose.
