Mary’s Bio
I remember learning to read easily. There were no books at home so cornflake boxes, packaging and newspapers were what we had for practice. Later the local library was a favourite place and books took me to other places, peoples and times. Historical fiction made sense of the cold facts of school lessons. To use an e-reader is anathema to me, not to feel the weight of words in a dictionary, to trace a river in an atlas or to smell the paper old or new would be too sad. These combined senses are reading, the rustle and flick of the pages turning to new wonders and imaginary worlds.
